Alice M. Armstrong of Allegan, MI passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 at the Allegan County Medical Care Community following a lengthy illness. Alice was born on June 22, 1930 in Allegan to Donald and Louella Billings. In 1948 Alice married Ray Armstrong who, after 56 years together, preceded her in death in 2004. Alice's life was devoted to her family and friends, her faith and her forty plus years work at the Allegan General Hospital. She will be remembered as a mother who loved nothing more than being with her family, especially if it involved eating together outside! She particularly treasured time spent playing with and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had an ability to notice when a friend needed a bit of special attention, a visit for coffee or a nice leisurely drive along the lakeshore. Alice was a lifelong member of Merson Church and an active participant in the Women's Fellowship, Sunday School class, and Bible Study. In addition, she felt honored to serve many years as a Deaconess. Alice was very proud of the decades that she spent employed at Allegan's General Hospital, originally working as a nurse's aide in patient care and eventually in Central Supply with her good friend Margie. Alice will be remembered fondly for her gracious heart, generous spirit, ready laugh and love of her flower garden. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and several brother and sisters. Alice is survived by her six children: Dave (Lynn) Armstrong, Pat (Jim) Hartman, Carrie (Mark) Jones, Dianne (Bernie) Whisler, Cindy (Dave) Davis and Paula (Dick) Hastings. Also surviving are her sisters, Barb Knarian and Donna Armstrong, as well as dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Mrs. Armstrong will be laid to rest in Mallory Cemetery beside her husband. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Merson Church, 3313 102nd Avenue, Gobles, MI 49055.
