Obituary

of Allegan, died Thursday, July 7, 2011 in California. Al was born April 12, 1928, in Detroit, the son of Adelbert and Zela (Dickey) Cortright. Al graduated from Western Michigan University and was a member of the Varsity Track Team. He received his Masters Degree from University of Michigan. Al worked for the Allegan Public Schools for 30 years, serving as Principal at South Ward and West Ward, and teaching at Dawson. He was a member of United Methodist Church, and the Lions Club for 50 years. He loved his involvement with the Allegan Community Players. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Julia, 6 children; Michael and Christine Cortright and Sheryl and Mike Flynn all of Allegan, Mary and Chris Olsen of California, Rebecca and Chris Cortright Getting, of Florida, Kathleen and Mark Horn of Allegan, and John and Connie Cortright of New York, 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Bill and Cindy Cortright of California, his sister, Emily and Jim Saylor of Pentwater, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Al was preceded in death by his 2 sisters; Betty and Marilyn, and a grandson, John. Friends may meet with the family on Friday, July 22, from 10-11 am at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where the service will be at 11am. Rev. John Cortright will officiate. Interment Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Twp. Memorials may be made to the Allegan Dollars for Scholars or Hospice of the Valleys, 25240 Hancock Ave., Suite 120, Murrieta, CA 92562
