Obituary

Katherine Hattie Mae Davis was born on July 7, 1930 in rural Wardell, Missouri to the union of the Late James Herbert Banks and Myrtle Shepard Banks. She was the oldest girl of 10 Children and the fifth oldest overall. Katherine attended Lincoln High School in Charleston, Missouri, and accepted Christ into her life at an early age. Katherine was a single mother of six children. The family moved from Missouri to Chicago in the mid 1950's and permanently settled in Allegan, Michigan six months later. She supported her family by doing domestic work, frequently working multiple shifts to insure her family was well cared for. Katherine became a long time member of Grace Temple Community Church. She loved to bake and was known for her coconut and chocolate cakes and sweet potato pies, all of which were delicious. She was a big fan of the soap operas, "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful". She often spoke of the characters as if they were good friends. While in California on vacation she actually met the actors that portrayed Erick and Brick, characters from the Bold and the Beautiful. You can imagine how thrilling that must have been for Katherine, along with meeting Magic Johnson. Katherine was gifted with a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers throughout her yard before moving to Dallas, Texas with her son Richard and his wife Jaki in 2001. The family moved to Austin, Texas in 2003 where Katherine shared a home with her daughter, Barbara until the Lord called her home on August 21, 2015. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, James Herbert Banks and Myrtle Shepard Banks; three brothers, Jimmie White, Percy Banks, and Henry Banks; her sisters, Alice Banks and Mable Benson. Also preceding Katherine in death were three children, Azella Nelson, Gary Davis and Pat Davis; one granddaughter Tracy McDuel and a longtime friend Mamie Pritchett. Katherine leaves to cherish her loving memory, son Richard Davis (Jaki) of Austin, TX, daughter Barbara Foster of Austin, TX, and daughter Shirley Carter of Allegan, MI; sisters Grace Fuller of Los Angeles, CA and Essie Lawson of Phoenix, AZ; brothers Joseph Banks (Shirley) of Madison, WI and Samuel Banks (Josephine) of Mansfield, OH; twelve grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, sixteen great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Katherine's dear friends, Mary Hearn of Allegan, MI, Francine Davis of Austin, TX, Tina Brown of Allegan, MI, Sylvia Jennings of Kalamazoo, MI, Mary and Alice Johnson of Allegan, MI, Gloria Luttrell of Fort Myers, FL, Windsor Barbee of Dallas, TX, Norma Crider of Bloomington, IN and Larry Johnson of Austin, TX.
