age 86, died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Allegan General Hospital after a short illness. Edward was born November 29, 1926 in Allegan, the son of Wilbur J. and Helen (Matusek) Darby. He graduated from Allegan High School in 1944. He served in the Army from April 3, 1945, having received the American Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal, until his Honorable discharge on November 27, 1946. Ed earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics on June 15, 1958 from Michigan College of Mining and Technology. He retired from Greiner Inc., Great Lakes, Grand Rapids. After retirement, he enjoyed his woods and working with his sawmill. Ed is survived by his brothers: Wilbur Darby, and Joseph (Marilyn) Darby; his sister, Helen Darby; nephew, Kenneth (Joy) Darby; niece, Diane (Kenneth) Kamps; great-nephew, Casey Kamps; great-niece, Kendi Jo Kamps; and step-great-nieces, Haley and Kathleen Emmons. Ed was preceded in death by his parents. In respect to Ed's wishes, no services will be held. A Remembrance Gathering in memory of Ed's life will be held at a later date.
