William Simmons Obituary

William Fred Simmons, 75, of Springfield, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2017 at his home. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on March 24, 1942, the son of George Angus Simmons and Maude Gage. When he was 18 he married Sally Marie (who was 16 at the time) and they shared 25 years together as husband and wife. Preceding William in death is his wife, Sally Marie; his mom, Maude Gage and father George Angus Simmons; five brothers: Cleve Simmons, Joe Simmons, Alfred Simmons, Johnny Simmons, Richard Simmons; and one sister, Deloris Moby. He is survived by his three children, Betty Campbell (Allen Wendorf), Kathy (Tommy) Brown and Billy (Paula) Simmons, all of Battle Creek, Michigan; two granddaughters: Victoria Nash of Indiana and Sally Capone of Pennsylvania; two grandsons: Joey Simmons of Petoskey and Jerry Royal of Holland; two great-granddaughters: Destiny Marie Cole and Bella Nash, both of Indiana; one brother-in-law, James "Jim" Harris; one sister-in-law, Debbie Johnson; his special friend, Carol Oberlin; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer and battled it as long as he could. He worked at American Aerosol for many years where he ran the lines and worked as a night janitor. He also worked at Cramptons. Dad enjoyed working on cars and putting another motor in his garage. He spent time collecting old coins, jackknives and lighters. He had a shed for his tools and if somebody didn't put a tool back where he had it, he sure would let you know about it. He loved a clean house and he never kept a dirty ash tray. If you used one and didn't empty it, he was quick to let you know he didn't approve and it needed to be emptied. He loved his dog, Pretty Face, very much. She was his pride and joy. Wherever Dad was, she was with him. His friend, John, helped Dad fix his trailer and they worked on tractors together. They were always doing something outside or inside. He enjoyed going over to his friend Keith's house, where they would sit on the porch to talk and drink their coffee. If he was able, he would help Keith with his chores or projects. Melvin and Becky Bookman were also great friends to Dad and to our family - always there whenever we needed them. He loved being around his family and friends and they loved being around him. We miss him already. Service Information
