Obituary

Lawrence Duane Lutz, 81 of Allegan, Michigan passed away Monday, September 30, 2019 at home with his family by his side. Born September 19, 1938 in Benton Harbor, Michigan, he was the son of the late Dan Lutz and Cora (Como) Hearn and the husband of the late Donna (Asbury) Lutz. Larry, as he was known to most, spent 33 years as a teacher in the Allegan Public School system. When not in the classroom you could find “Coach Lutz” working with students/athletes. Students enjoyed being around “Mr. Lutz” and his quick-witted humor and infectious laugh. In his spare time, Larry loved going hunting, fishing or making beautiful things out of wood that have turned into wonderful keepsakes. Spending time with his girls and their families added great joy to his life. Family time meant a great deal to Larry and he cherished their love and presence in his life.

Larry is survived by his two daughters, Kim (Tim) Arthur and Kari (Paul) Lambert; nine grandchildren, Kyle Brown, Coy Brown, Kayne Brown, Drew Lambert, Travis Lambert, Carleigh Arthur, Seth Arthur, Masyn Iehl and Brady Iehl; 12 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Gerald Lutz, Roger Hearn and Colleen Driggers. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristin L. Meurer.

Friends may meet with the family at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Per Larry’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Larry’s name to Wings of Hope Hospice or Allegan All Sports Booster Club.

Kim and Kari:
I want to express my sadness and deep sympathy to you on the passing of your Dad, Larry.
He, Kay McAnallen Salo, and I started together at AHS in 1961, and remained friends through the years.
We shared some good times with Donna and Larry.
I appreciated very much Larry asking me to speak to one of his teams prior to a home game, and I enjoyed
attending his induction into the Allegan Sports Hall of Fame.
He was an outstanding teacher, coach, and a true gentleman. You can be very proud of his life.
May our Lord bless you at this difficult time.
