Obituary

LaVerne Otto Lussenden, 86 of Hopkins, Michigan, went to be with his Heavenly Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the Allegan County Medical Care Community. Born December 30, 1932 in Barry County, Michigan, he was the son of the late Wayne and Rosetta (Finkbeiner) Lussenden and the husband of the late Joyce (Miller) Lussenden. Vern, as most people knew him, spent his life serving Christ as a Pastor for over 30 years. He was also involved with the Friend of the Court (FOC) for about 20 years and served as the Hopkins Township Clerk. His community meant a great deal to him and he was committed to the people in Hopkins. He and his late wife, Joyce, were active members of the Church of Christ Church in Bradley, Michigan.

Vern is survived by his children, Rick (Kathy) Lussenden, Cindi Sebring (Bill Kingsley), Cathy (Jesse) Treece and Carol (Ted) Lee; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, Wayne and Rosetta, and his wife, Joyce, he was preceded in death by three children, Daniel, Wayne and Brenda; and one brother, Delbert Lussenden.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Tim Dickinson and the staff at the ACMCC for their wonderful care and compassion during their father’s time there.

Friends may meet with the family at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, at which time the funeral service will begin, Pastor Adam Porter officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Vern’s name to the Allegan County Medical Care Community, 3265 122nd Avenue, Allegan, MI 49010. Burial will take place in Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins Township.

I am so sorry to have missed Verns funeral service Vern was a valued employee of mine at the Archer-Hampel funeral home in wayland for over ten years. His grace, understanding, and dry humor were priceless. He had his share of heartache in his life but never any anger. I have many pleasant expierences with him but seeing him drive his Harley one armed with Joyce on the back is classic Vern. Please accept my belated condolences. Vern was an awsome man. Respectfully, Larry Kubiak
