Jamey Lee Steffens, 26, of Hopkins, MI passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 22, 2020. He was born June 23, 1993 in Grand Rapids and was a graduate of Allendale High School. Jamey loved playing basketball and soccer. Jamey was the son of Jim and Karen Steffens and the biological child of Melvin Stevenson, Sr. and Rachel Toliver. He was a proud member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. Jamey loved to go fishing, but his real passion was being in the kitchen cooking. He dearly loved his entire family and especially cherished and adored his two beautiful daughters.

Jamey is survived by his parents, Jim and Karen Steffens; birth parents, Melvin Stevenson, Sr. and Rachel Toliver; his beloved daughters, Amelia Steffens and Esme’ Reister; and fifteen siblings, Tracy, Brittney, Tiffany, Cody, Destiny, Anthony, Riley, Macailey, Cherish, Tashia, Tanesha, William, Rumeal, Melvin and Corinne. He is also survived by grandmothers, Karen Kay Steffens and Helen Hillman.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Camp Jijak at a date to be determined. Donations in Jamey’s memory may be directed to the family for his daughters, Amelia and Esme’. Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements. Service details will be announced at when they are finalized.

“Native American Prayer”
I give you this one thought to keep –
I am with you still – I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone –
I am with you still – in each new dawn.
