Arthur Liebelt III Obituary

Arthur Herman Liebelt III

December 24, 1961 – April 6, 2024

Arthur Herman Liebelt III, a cherished soul and master of many crafts, passed away on April 6, 2024, at the age of 62 in Grand Rapids, MI. Born on December 24, 1961, in Joliet, IL, to proud parents Arthur and Donna Jean (Schenkel) Liebelt, he grew up to be a man of many talents and an inspiration to all who knew him.

Arthur, known affectionately as Art by his friends and family, was a man whose hands could skillfully create beauty from wood, a testament to his 20-year tenure as the dedicated business owner of AH Liebelt III Enterprises. His work as a master woodworker was not just a profession but a passion, leaving a legacy of craftsmanship that will be admired for generations.

Art's love for life was as expansive as his skill set. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding solace and joy in the quietude of nature while hunting and fishing. His musical talents were another source of delight; he could play the guitar and accordion with a finesse that could only come from a deep love for the arts. Art was also an exceptional sketch artist, his drawings a window into the soul of a man who saw the world in beautiful strokes and shades.

A natural-born storyteller, Art had the unique ability to captivate an audience with tales that could make you laugh one moment and reflect the next. His culinary skills were equally impressive, and many will fondly remember the warmth and laughter that filled the room when he cooked for family and friends.

Art leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly: his children, Jennifer and Donna Liebelt; his siblings, Christian (Sarah) Liebelt and Andrew Liebelt; and his four lovely nieces, who will carry forward the memory of their kind and talented uncle.

Handy, creative, and passionate—these words only begin to describe a man whose presence was a gift to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Art's legacy is not only in the wood he shaped or the stories he shared but in the love he gave and the lives he touched.

Arthur Herman Liebelt III lived a life that was full, his journey marked by the joy he found in simple pleasures and the love he had for his family and friends. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to live on through the memories we cherish and the love that never fades.

I’d like the memory of me, to be a happy one, I’d like to leave an afterglow, of smiles when life is done.  I’d like to leave an echo, whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun, of happy memories that I leave, when life is done.

Arthur's Memorial service will be on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, from 2:00pm - 3:00pm with an hour visitation beforehand.
