Karen Rae Zylstra, 70, of Hopkins died on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Metro Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born on July 1, 1940 in Grand Rapids the daughter of Victor and Pauline (Susemihl) Bistodeau. Karen was known as a "social butterfly" to her family and friends, she loved to be around people. The coffee pot at her home was always on, and the more company she had, the happier she was. She also attended Thornapple Valley Church. Karen is survived by her four children, Denise (David) Gerou of Grand Rapids, David (Caren) Wright of Hopkins, Steve (Jill) Wright of Wayland and Robert (Kellee) Zylstra of Hopkins; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; sisters Viola (John) Laurence and Sharon Spicer of Florida, Luella Foust of Moline and Marlene (Walt) Brown of Three Rivers. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donald Bistodeau. Friends may call on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, 208 W. Main St. where funeral services will be held at 1:00pm. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
